Living History Interview: Alter Wiener
Part One of Four

Alter Wiener : A Name to a Number

Flightline Fabrications recently interviewed WWII Holocaust Survivor Alter Wiener. Alter was generous enough to sit down for our Living History Project and tell us about his book and life story. In this four part interview Alter will talk about what his life was like and his experiences during the Holocaust.

“I cannot even measure how privileged I feel to have had the chance to meet Alter Wiener, read his book “From a Name to A Number: A Holocaust Survivor’s Autobiography, and learn of his story and life.  You can find a lot of history about WWII, you can read and research endlessly, but you cannot learn about what the holocaust was really like until you have heard it from Alter’s book and lectures.”

“Many things touch our lives, but Alter’s story is one that will touch your life forever; how he lived, how he lives, and how he will be remembered.”

“My life has been blessed with Alter’s book and story.  I promise you will not want to put it down, and that says a lot from a person who doesn’t really read books.  You will want to hear what Alter has to say!”

It was such a privilege to hear Alter Weiner tell, in his own words, of horrors we cannot even imagine. His interview, like his book, is spellbinding. With such a tragic story, I found his words uplifting.

He points out the good in humanity, yet he saw not hundreds, but thousands of people die at the hands of the Nazis. He’s a living testimony that the human spirit can still soar after such brutality.

There has not been a day since I read his book that I don’t thank God for the life I live. As Alter and other Holocaust survivors share their experiences, they strengthen and warn us. I don’t think the citizens of Europe ever realized the Nazis were capable of such atrocities. It amazes me that a lunatic like Hitler was able to convince the educated men under him to annihilate millions of people.

For a man that lost 122 members of his family, Alter Weiner tells the story without rage or hatred–a lesson to us all.

I’m very anxious to hear the rest of your interview with this great man.

I listened to the interview. I had tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing it and please tell Bryan that he is doing God’s work in this project.

I am so touch with what Alter’s story. It is one of inspiration. If he can go throught the holocaust, survive, and make something of himself then I can do anything. It makes my challenges and problems trivial compared to what he has seen and gone through. I am so happy I could hear his story and look forward to reading his book.

This is so painful to hear this but we must bear witness. The good must survive just as Wiener survived these horrors.
