“There has not been a day since I read his book that I don’t thank God for the life I live. As Alter and other Holocaust survivors share their experiences, they strengthen and warn us. I don’t think the citizens of Europe ever realized the Nazis were capable of such atrocities. It amazes me that a lunatic like Hitler was able to convince the educated men under him to annihilate millions of people.”
“For a man that lost 122 members of his family, Alter Weiner tells the story without rage or hatred – a lesson to us all.”

“I cannot even measure how privileged I feel to have had the chance to meet Alter Wiener, read his book “From a Name to A Number: A Holocaust Survivor’s Autobiography“, and learn of his story and life. You can find a lot of history about WWII, you can read and research endlessly, but you cannot learn about what the holocaust was really like until you have heard it from Alter’s book and lectures.”
“Many things touch our lives, but Alter’s story is one that will touch your life forever; how he lived, how he lives, and how he will be remembered.”
“My life has been blessed with Alter’s book and story. I promise you will not want to put it down, and that says a lot from a person who doesn’t really read books. You will want to hear what Alter has to say!”

Alter Wiener is a Survivor of the WWII Holocaust. His story is as important as every Holocaust story. Al as he is known to his friends has in recent years found a strong desire to make known the reality of the WWII HOLOCAUST. His intent is to use his time to ensure that the public has all the information necessary to help prevent another horrific end to millions of precious lives, Jewish or other.
Al lives in Hillsboro Oregon and spends much of his time presenting his story to the public through the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center . In the last few years he has shared his life story over 400 times in middle and high schools, colleges, universities, churches, synagogues, prisons and clubs, in Oregon and Washington.
His audiences have appreciated Al’s messages of the importance of education, tolerance and hope. His story has influenced many to take another path in their lives to embrace that hope as opposed to defeat and even suicide. His book chronicles these responses as well as his life in the camps and his liberation.
